Warm weather hits Toronto this week

Toronto will see clear skies and warm weather this week, according to meteorologist Daniel Liota.

Environment Canada forecasts that Toronto will see sunny skies Monday through Friday, and temperatures in the city could top 20C starting Tuesday. Environment Canada is also predicting a high of 25 C on Thursday, the warmest day of the year so far.

“When I have some time, I really want to go out and enjoy the sun,” Liota said. “Maybe start a little gardening.”

The average temperature taken at Pearson Airport at this time of year is about 17C, Liota said. She said the warmer-than-average weather this week was a normal part of the ups and downs of Toronto’s spring weather patterns.

Liota also said that parts of the city near Lake Ontario would be noticeably cooler.

“Lake Ontario is still a bit cool after this winter,” Liota said. “There’s going to be a big difference if it’s downtown or by the water, compared to up north in New Market or in the York region.”

Liota said the sun would be strong throughout the week and Environment Canada predicts a “very high” UV index on Monday.

“While it lasts, it’s going to be the nicest stretch of weather we’ve had so far this spring,” Liota said.

“Go out, enjoy and don’t forget the sunscreen”.
