RTÉ will take on the pantos with the release of Toy Show The Musical

RTÉ is launching a Christmas musical to take on traditional pantos based on a girl’s Late Toy Show adventure set to kick off this December.

Toy Show The Musical will run this Christmas in the Convention Center auditorium and “will bring the magic of The Late Last Toy Show on the theater stage for the first time.

The production will follow the story of a girl and her family as they prepare for the most important night of their lives: the night of the toy show Through the eyes of a girl.

The new Irish musical is created and produced by late show producers Jane Murphy and Katherine Drohan and will kick off on December 10, during the Christmas panto season. RTÉ confirmed that the show will run “for several weeks.”

Any profit made from the production will be used to “support the provision of RTÉ’s public services”, an RTÉ spokesman said.

RTÉ CEO Dee Forbes said the station has been “quietly working on Toy Show The Musical for quite some time” and are “delighted to be in a position to release it.”

“We said several years ago that live events would be a key part of RTÉ’s future, but had to delay our plans due to the pandemic. Like The Late Last Toy Show in itself, a lot of care and thought is being put into this musical,” said Ms. Forbes.

Toy Show The Musical will be directed by Séimí Campbell, whose recent work includes the work of Gary Barlow a different stage and Jason Robert Brown Songs for a new world at the London Palladium. Award-winning playwright Lisa Tierney-Keogh said she was “absolutely excited to write Toy Show The Musical”.

The musical will bring the experience of The Late Last Toy Show takes the theater stage for the first time and tells a story about “family, tradition and how the magic of toy show it brings the whole world together every year for one truly amazing night.”

The production has been described as a “naughty musical experience for the whole family, where the kids are in charge and the adults are kids again.”

Producers Murphy and Drohan said they were delighted to “honor the toy show and all the joy and magic that inspires in Ireland every year” with a musical.

“Filled with fun, laughter and love, we watch as the toy show It allows children to teach us that the magic they need to change their world already exists within them.”

late late Host Ryan Tubridy confirmed that he will not be part of the show, saying he will “leave the theater stage to the theater actors” and wished the “brilliant team involved” the best.

London-based director Séimí Campbell said it was “an honor to return home to direct a new and original musical that celebrates the incredible tradition of toy show; the magic of childhood, the resilience of family, and the power and importance of play.”
