A three-year-old boy has died after a suspected dog attack in Rochdale this afternoon.
Paramedics responded to the scene in Milnrow shortly after 1 pm and found the boy critically injured.
He was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead. No arrests have been made at this stage and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
Greater Manchester Police have said a criminal investigation has been launched following the attack.
Detective Superintendent Jamie Daniels said: “This is a tragic and devastating incident and our thoughts are with the family at this horrific time.” We are investigating the incident and previous incidents involving dogs at this address.
“While our investigations to find out what happened will be extensive and are in their infancy, we suspect that this young child unfortunately succumbed to injuries received as a result of a dog attack.
“I understand that this is an extremely distressing incident for all involved and this news will shock the local community.
“I can only assure everyone that we will work tirelessly to establish the full circumstances that led to this tragedy and while we are keeping an open mind, this is now being treated as a criminal investigation.”
‘There will be a significant police presence in the area; we will be there to conduct an investigation and address any concerns residents may have.’
