Man arrested on suspicion of murder after death at home in Tuebrook

A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man was allegedly fatally assaulted in Tuebrook, Liverpool.

Merseyside Police were called to a disturbance inside a house on Newsham Drive shortly after 6:50 p.m.

Emergency services responded but, despite the efforts of paramedics, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force said in a statement that an investigation has been launched and officers remain at the house while extensive forensic, house-to-house and CCTV investigations are carried out.

Detective Inspector Catherine Cox said: “Our thoughts first and foremost are with the family of the victim tonight.

“Of course, his death will have shocked them, as well as the Tuebrook community at large.

If you were in the Newsham Drive area around 6:50 pm this afternoon and witnessed someone or something suspicious, please contact us.

“We are in the early stages of this investigation and our officers are working to establish exactly what happened.

“While we have already made one arrest, our investigations continue and we would call on anyone with information to come forward so those responsible can be brought to justice.

“If you were in the Newsham Drive area around 6:50pm this afternoon and witnessed someone or something suspicious, please contact us. Any information he possesses could be vital to our investigations.
