Man (36) charged with death threat and kidnapping after man was doused with fuel in Co Down

A 36-year-old man has been charged with offenses including death threats and kidnapping after an incident in Co Down on Sunday.

It came after another man was abducted from King Street in Newcastle and taken to a car park on Oldtown Road in Annalong shortly after 9:00 p.m.

They then doused him with fuel and threatened that they would set him on fire if he did not hand over the money to his assailant.

The 36-year-old has been charged with multiple crimes, including death threats, kidnapping, common assault and aggravated robbery.

He is expected to appear in Newry Magistrates Court on May 23.

As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Ministry.

A 31-year-old man who was also arrested in connection was released on police bail pending further investigation.
