GRAMGood evening and welcome to live coverage of Manchester United vs Chelsea, with both clubs facing questions about their medium-term futures after disappointing seasons in the league for different reasons.

Thomas Tuchel has insisted the Chelsea side just need a facelift for next season, before facing a United side that Ralf Rangnick says require “open heart surgery”.

Tuchel will go toe-to-toe with his mentor Rangnick at Old Trafford, insisting Chelsea don’t need the emergency operation the Red Devils are talking about.

Where Rangnick believes new United boss Erik Ten Hag will have to breathe new life into the Old Trafford ranks, Tuchel remains confident that Chelsea’s needs are superficial.

Chelsea have lost ground to their rivals in recruitment and retention for the next term due to the club’s limitations given the UK Government’s sanctions on owner Roman Abramovich.

Talismanic defender Antonio Rudiger will leave for Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, and fellow centre-back Andreas Christensen will also head to Barcelona.

Asked what Chelsea needs this summer in light of the comments on Rangnick’s heart operation, Tuchel replied: “Facelift. I would worry less if we had the same ownership, if we could trust our structure.”

“As this is also in doubt, we are not concerned, but we are aware of the danger of the situation becoming a bit more complex.”

“And it can be complex enough if you lose a player like Toni, and maybe you lose another player like Andreas with the quality guy, and both for free.

“It’s demanding enough nowadays in football to lose this kind of quality, in a defense three lose two key players for free.

“It can be demanding enough even if everything else stays in place. So with that in mind, it can be a very, very demanding summer.”

“I don’t know if surgery is the right term for it, but I just want to be positive about it and stick to things we can influence.”

Chelsea hope to have Reece James and Antonio Rudiger back from injury.
