Jif peanut butter recalled due to possible salmonella

(WWTI) — JM Smucker Co. is recalling select Jif peanut butter products sold in the United States due to possible salmonella contamination. The US Food and Drug Administration has warned that salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy people who are infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Also, in rare circumstances, salmonella infection can cause the organism to enter the bloodstream and lead to more serious illnesses, such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

The FDA website indicated that the recalled peanut butter was distributed across the country in retail stores and other outlets. Recalled products include products with lot codes 1274425 through 2140425. Lot codes are listed along with the expiration date. The full list of recalled products is below.
