When a Prince George RCMP officer approached the young man about his involvement in a fight, he fled on foot and was struck by a vehicle.
Mounted Police in Prince George called in independent investigators after a young man was hit by a car while fleeing from police.
RCMP officers were patrolling the fairgrounds at the CN Center when security personnel flagged them down about a young man who had been in a fight.
When an officer approached the youth, he ran and was struck by a vehicle heading south on Ospika Boulevard. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The BC Office of Independent Investigations will investigate the circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest and whether police actions contributed to the youth’s injuries.
Meanwhile, the Prince George RCMP has opened an investigation into the initial allegation of assault.
Police are not releasing updates pending an independent investigation. Public reports are available at iiobc.ca after an investigation is complete, and the BC District Attorney Service follows up if charges are recommended.
