Elon Musk Jokes He’d Buy Coke ‘To Put Coca Cola Back’ After Twitter Takeover

Seemingly buoyed by his recent acquisition of the social media platform, the Tesla billionaire took to Twitter on Wednesday to joke about another company he might have in mind.

Writing to his 87.8 million Twitter followers, he suggested he would buy the drink brand to add an ingredient.

He said Wednesday: “The next thing I’m going to buy is Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back.”

The Standard has contacted a Coca Cola representative for comment.

Contrary to Musk’s claim, the beverage brand has maintained that its drink has never contained a narcotic substance.

“Coca-Cola does not contain cocaine or any other harmful substance, and cocaine has never been an added ingredient in Coca-Cola,” their FAQ states.

In another post, he told fans he “can’t do miracles” in response to a post about buying McDonald’s to fix their ice cream machines.

Musk’s latest comments came shortly after it was confirmed that SpaceX’s chief executive, and the world’s richest man, had bought the social media platform for £34.5bn.

The acquisition, which he first mentioned in 2017, has drawn a mixed response.

Some expressed concern that control of Twitter is in the hands of a single person.

Others have also questioned Musk’s beliefs about free speech and how that may affect the social media platform’s policies.

Writing about his beliefs on free speech, Musk said, “The extreme antibody reaction of those who fear free speech speaks volumes.”

He later clarified: “By ‘freedom of expression,’ I simply mean what conforms to the law. I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law. If people want less freedom of expression, they will ask the government to pass laws to that effect. Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people.”
