Dolphin caught in fishing net saved by Italian coastguard

A young bottlenose dolphin was saved by members of the Italian coast guard on Sunday, May 1, after becoming entangled in a fishing net near the eastern city of Porto Recanati, the coast guard said. The Guardia Costiera said sailors had seen the dolphin in “obvious difficulty” about 400 meters off the coast of Porto Recanati, a town south of Ancona in Italy’s central Marche region, and alerted authorities. A coast guard patrol boat was dispatched from nearby Civitanova Marche and the crew helped disentangle the distressed dolphin. Credit: Coast Guard via Storyful
