The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. in the area of ​​Southwest 179th Street and 112th Avenue, according to Miami-Dade police. The area is just east of the Florida Turnpike.

The cyclist, who was not identified, was taken to hospital in critical condition, police said. The driver of the car, a woman, was also taken to hospital after having a “medical episode,” police said.

Detectives are investigating the accident.

It came just hours before a group of cyclists traveled down Crandon Boulevard Wednesday night in an event to remember cyclists who have been killed or injured in accidents.
